Q:
I know I should be posting on social regularly, but I have no idea what to share! Do I just talk about my product and services?
A:
There is so much more to discuss on social than what you’re selling! Nobody wants to follow an account that is always trying to sell, no matter how fantastic the product is. Consider your role within the brand; do you want people to relate to you and know who YOU are? Then you’ll want to share some behind-the-scenes and lifestyle posts so you can build that connection. Think about showing people a view or two of how your photo sessions happen, or an inspiration board for your interior design client, or how you spend your Tuesdays at salvage stores finding the perfect decor piece for your online shop.
If you’ve created a product, consider talking about the process of creating the product you sell! You can also show your audience who the team behind the product is, and let them get a peek at your office space, your daily routines, your team members, or your inspiration for new product launches.
Bringing people into your world will create a relationship, even if you never meet in person. If you’re on Instagram (and who isn’t?!), be sure to take advantage of IG stories! Recent numbers show that stories are viewed more often than posts on your feed, so stories is where it’s at. If you want to really go all in on video and stories, dive into IGTV and create longer videos that your audience can really sink their teeth into. Think about tutorials, Q&A sessions, behind-the-scenes walk-throughs…. get creative! The focus right now should absolutely be on your stories, though.
