In the June 2021 update of Lightroom, the Super Resolution tool was introduced. Well, the tool actually existed within Camera Raw already, but Adobe has now integrated it into Lightroom so you can easily apply it to any photo! So what exactly is this Super Resolution tool? Where do you find it in Lightroom, and how does it work?
What is Super Resolution and where is it?
Adobe’s Super Resolution tool is an automated enhancement of a photo that will multiply the number of pixels 4x. It does this using AI that was developed specifically to create pixels to fill in an image, and it’s pretty impressive! This is a great tool to use for some older photos you may have from cameras with lower resolutions. It’s not going to be perfect, but can absolutely breathe a bit of new life into them.
To find the Super Resolution tool within Lightroom, you can be in either the Library or the Develop module. Select the photo that you want to enhance. Go to Photo->Enhance… Once you click on this, a small window will open up. Here you’ll want to check the box for Super Resolution. I recommend checking the box for creating a stack as well.
This small dialogue box will show you a preview of the enhanced photo, and you can zoom out or back in, and you can also compare the before and after easily. If you like the preview, go ahead and click Enhance!
To help make it really easy, below is a video walking you through this whole process.
