There’s nothing that shows inexperience more than having slanted verticals or crooked horizontals in your photos. Think back to photos you’ve seen (or some that you’ve taken) where the camera is slightly tilted down and ends up making the verticals all slant inward. The distortion is really noticeable! This is seen more in real estate, where often photographer have less experience and jobs can sometimes be quick and messy. If you’re working with interior designers, architects, builders, or home product brands, you’ll want to make absolutely certain that you straighten those lines. This step needs to be a crucial (and early) part of your workflow so that you get to the point where you can’t stand to see slanted verticals!
If you’re not used to doing this already, you’re in luck. It’s a really simple process in Lightroom that can easily be done as part of your editing workflow. In the video below, we’ll walk through how to use the Transform settings and sliders to make sure that your vertical are vertical and horizontals are horizontal.
Sometimes, the things that seem like the smallest details actually have the biggest impact. So take a few moments and straighten those lines! Your clients will love it and you’ll have better work to show for it.
